watercolored cards

...And now for a couple of cards I created using Tim Holtz distress markers for watercoloring.....  see, not scary like the zombie card I posted last week. lol!

I really love these pens, and watercoloring with them. I've been using a thick watercolor paper. 140 lb. I still need lots of practice, but wow- blending and shading is so much easier for me.
Same thing here but I also created the little butterfly embellishment using grunge board, wire, and a bead.  I colored it with metallic rub ons, and then added wire and a bead.
TFL!  :)

Zombie!

I am one of those people who loves to watch all things vampire, witch and zombies...   ;)  I couldn't resist this zombie rubber stamp set by Pink Hippo Stamps.  This is a Halloween card I made for my dad.  He likes that stuff too.  When I was a teenager, we watched horror/scary movies almost every Sunday together.  :)
My new found love that I am currently collecting.. Tim Holtz distress markers to water color.  I have some other sweet and not so gross cards to share with you another day.  lol!   I also used a T.H. embossing folder and then applied T.H. black and rock candy crackle paint over it and then swiped it with T.H. distress red ink pad.  Look at me, quite the T.H. fan these days.  ;)
TFL.  Happy Friday!  :)

alcohol ink scenery

Trying something a little more artistic...   The youtube video I watched made it look so easy, but it was not at all easy (for me!).  However, it was fun.  After several tries, this was the best I got.  I plan to try again.  I used a piece of stampboard which has a nice glossy-like surface.  You put the ink directly on the surface and let it run back and forth....  I added my sun later because I wasn't about to try to mask yet. lol.  I stamped a fish on the lower right...

Here's the video I watched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12OXKx0NBDo

World Cardmaking day!

I didn't participate in any of the online World Cardmaking Day challenges, link ups or giveaways, but I did make cards all day yesterday.  Well, most of the day..... playing with all the new goodies I bought.  :)  I got 3 cards made.  Here they are:

I used a square of stampboard along with a few colors of alcohol ink and it created this cool vibrant background piece for this plastic bird piece I got in a scrapbook kit recently.  Inside says "it's your birthday.  happy birthday to you!".....
I think it turned out cool.
Using another piece of stampboard, I used two colors of alcohol ink and blending solution to create this pretty fall background piece.  I stamped a leaveless tree onto it.  I also added rock candy crackle paint the main cardstock piece to give it some shine and texture.  The poem was printed onto a piece of plain copy paper, because my printer doesn't like cardstock :(  I crumpled, inked, etc.....
 close up of stampboard piece.
I'm actually quite proud of this last card even though the photo does not do it justice at all.  It definitely looks better in real life.  I painted little canvas board with gesso and then used alcohol inks on it.  I glued on the floral piece of cardstock and covered the whole thing in rock candy crackle paint.  The bird is Tim Holtz grunge board and I covered it with gesso and the added alcohol inks to color it. The bird has two different blues...
better irl, really!  lol!
Hope you got to make some cards, too!  TFL!  :)

some changes...

Hello!  It was a sad decision, but I decided to quit the DT's I was on.  Even though I love them both, I was feeling too busy creating assignments and not working on projects for myself.  Plus, I took on a lot more volunteer stuff at school, and well... I feel better already.  I worked ahead on cards for Cupcake Inspirations, so you will still see a few more Sunday posts from me, so make sure you come back and go play along with them.  :)

Recently I went to a Farmers Market that I love to go to occasionally, and I met a woman who had beautiful art for sale using different types of mediums.  One of them was alcohol ink art.  Alcohol ink?  I have that!  I have used it a handful of times in the last 7 years, probably, using only one technique. She wanted me to come to one of her classes, however, instead... inspired I checked out a few youtube vidoes... and then went to Michael's and bought more alcohol ink colors, gesso, Tim Holtz crackle paint (used to have that, too, in my supplies, but discovered it was all dried up.  You snooze you lose, I guess!).  I also got Tim Holtz stamps, distress ink markers, and watercolor paper..  whew.  I have a long list of techniques to try now, but here is what I've done this week.....

For this card (if you click on it will enlarge), I used alcohol ink on some foil.  It is kitchen foil so I folded it a few times for thickness.  I embossed it with a pretty rose embossing folder, then applied gesso (let dry) and applied alcohol ink.  That was kind of a long process of trial and error and finally with the addition of black ink and sanding, I created a look I thought to be pretty.  I love that about the inks, because I was able to keep going until I was happy rather than needing to toss it out after working on it for so long.
The layer on top of the foil is photo paper that I covered in alcohol ink, then applied two layers of picket fence crackle paint.....  The blue board is stamp board that is covered with alcohol ink and rock candy (clear) crackle paint, and the butterfly is a Tim Holtz grungeboard image that I applies gesso too, and stamped with a worded SU! stamp (which you can't really see in the photo- but you can in real life), let dry and then added alcohol ink to it....     :)
This card is much simpler, and pretty much the original technique on glossy cardstock that I was taught by the lady who works at my local stamp store (not a class, she just gave me some tips)...  I stamped some A|S stamps on it.. The fish are colored in with Copic markers with dots..  a little pointillism.  ;)
Inside... using vellum and punched pieces of left over background.  Stamp by SU!

TFL!  I look forward to trying out some more "artsy" techniques and getting back into scrapbooking.  I'm currently getting 2 kits and they are piling up!

Happy weekend!  :)
